July is a busy month at Copper Shores with our picnic in Ahmeek, application deadline for Bridges (which is now in Baraga County too!), new podcast episodes and more!
Our third annual community-wide picnic is only a couple weeks away! This year the event will take place in Ahmeek at the Gabriel Chopp Park right off of US-41 in downtown Ahmeek. We’ll have a free meal to share, kids games, a non-profit vendor expo featuring more than two dozen nonprofit organizations, a dunk tank, raffle prizes and more! Applications for Bridges due July 19
Are you or is someone you know sick and tired of being sick and tired? Time to take some action and be part of Copper Shores Bridges next Getting Ahead class! We help people find stability by introducing them to new concepts and community resources, and creating a future story they can be proud of and work towards. Registration for Suicide Prevention Training in Negaunee Closes on July 19
In partnership with the West End Health Foundation, Copper Shores Outreach & Education is hosting Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) on July 23 and 24, at Great Lakes Recovery Centers in Negaunee. This two-day workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, teaching people the skills the help prevent suicide, and how to intervene to help keep someone safe from suicide.
This training is open to the public, and provided at no cost thanks to the West End Health Foundation. To register for the training, call 1 (906) 482-9077 ext. 303, or email kmartens@coppershores.org. The deadline to register is July 19.
HeadsUP: A day of food, fun and fitness for middle schoolers
In collaboration with UP Health System - Portage, Copper Shores Community Health Foundation will be hosting HeadsUP, an exciting day of food, fun and fitness designed specifically for students entering 6th-8th grade. HeadsUp takes place on Tuesday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Quincy Green in Hancock. Click here to read more details!
Copper Shores providing support for innovative mental health solution
With sunshine and a light breeze blowing in from Lake Superior, Baraga State Park officially opened their brand new playground on July 3, 2024 at a lovely ceremony in front of a few dozen partners, campers and park employees. The new park features nature inspired designs and ADA-accessible equipment. The playground was funded in part by Copper Shores Community Health Foundation’s 2024 Community Recreation and Facilities grant. Listen to our podcast and more details here!
Juntunen goes from School to Farm to School

Small grants, big changes
We have awarded five organizations 2024 Small Grant awards, totaling $7,801.26. Funding will be going toward ADA playground equipment, resource updates, senior programming and more. Learn more about the Small Grant recipients’ plans.
