Getting Ahead is the cornerstone class of Copper Shores Bridges, a free program that helps people understand generational poverty and the steps to take to build independence and stability. The fall session for Getting Ahead begins in late August, and runs for 17 weeks. We’re accepting applications for Houghton, Baraga and Mass City now!
Why should you apply?
- You’ll be in charge of yourself! We won’t control the path you take. This is your time to dive deep and decide what changes you want to make. You choose your goals, we just help you achieve them.
- You can gain a better understanding of what’s keeping you in poverty. Poverty is not a moral failing or result of poor character. Poverty is a systemic issue, and Getting Ahead will help you discover a way out.
- You’ll be surrounded by people working towards similar goals. You may come from different backgrounds, but you’re all on a journey of self-discovery, self-empowerment and resilience. Time and time again, we find that folks are hesitant to be vulnerable with a new group of people, only to feel like family by the end. You’ll leave with a group of people who want you to succeed just as much as you want to succeed.
- You’ll get one-on-one support from our Bridges team. Whether it’s getting out of debt, finding more affordable housing, accessing transportation or applying for a job, we are here to support you. We’re happy to connect you with additional community resources and help build your support network.
- You will gain a renewed sense of hope. Getting Ahead brings hope to people who are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Just read these incredible quotes from our spring 2025 Getting Ahead graduates.
