Copper Shores Community Health Foundation is excited to announce, and grateful to receive, $20,000 from Geek U.P. to support the foundation's Meals on Wheels program. The seventh annual Geek U.P. took place last September, bringing in hundreds of community members in celebration of all things fandom and geek culture.

When creating Geek U.P., cofounders Shana Porteen, owner of Black Ice Comics in downtown Houghton, and Patricia Summersett, L’Anse native and voice actor best known for playing Zelda in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, both thought it was important that the mini-con not only brought people together, but also gave back to the very community members that make it a success. Each year, Geek U.P. chooses a local beneficiary and donates the proceeds from ticket sales and celebrity guest meet-and-greets to uplift causes in the community.

"We saw where the need was greatest and growing, and how much more needed to be done,” said Porteen. “It just made sense that this was going to be our recipient."

This donation will feed almost seven local seniors for an entire year, and help ensure that Meals on Wheels can continue delivering meals and meaningful connections.
