October 2026 Menu Highlight at Copper Shores Meals on Wheels

Fall is settling into the Copper Country, and Meals on Wheels — serving seniors throughout Houghton and Keweenaw counties — has a menu full of comfort food and community flavor this October.

Local partners show up throughout the month. Buried Stone Farms supplies bacon and ham, Ghost House Farms contributes produce like lettuce and cabbage, and Minnie Farms and Boersma Family Roots Farm both help round out the vegetable lineup, including the broccoli on this month's menu, along with Ransom Farms' berries and zucchini.

While we're excited about the entire menu, we know our seniors will be specifically looking forward to the two highlight menu items below.

Wednesday, Oct. 14 – Krupp's Pasties, made by Krupp's Mini Mart in Twin Lakes. Krupp's has partnered with us for years, and it's a meal our seniors look forward to every time it's on the menu. Read more about our partnership with Krupp's and watch our video feature on YouTube.
Friday, Oct. 30 – Baked whitefish with rice and vegetables, sourced from another longtime partner, Peterson's Fish Market.

Every Meals on Wheels participant receives a printed copy of the monthly menu delivered right along with their meals. Flip it over, and you'll find helpful information for seniors and their families on the back.

This month's back page is all about Medicare Open Enrollment, which runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. The State Health Insurance Assistance Program, or SHIP, offers free, unbiased one-on-one help understanding costs and coverage, comparing options and completing the enrollment process. Seniors and families in the U.P. can dial 211 to connect with a local SHIP counselor, or visit shiphelp.org to learn more.
