Copper Shores Community Health Foundation is launching a new program to help community members build confidence around nutrition. Beginning in April, Navigating Nutrition will offer a series of community-centered sessions focused on practical, easy-to-apply strategies for healthier eating.
Each session will feature clear, reliable nutrition information, with practical take-home tips, connections to food access programs and local nutrition professionals, and recipes and food samples when available. The goal of Navigating Nutrition is to meet people where they’re at without judgment – offering small, actionable steps that can make a real difference in long-term health outcomes.
“We want to help sift through the noise and focus on what’s truly evidence-based and sustainable,” said Meghan Jaszczak, registered dietitian and Copper Shores community health educator. “Our aim is to make each session approachable, engaging and grounded in real-life application so people leave feeling confident they can apply what they’ve learned in their everyday lives.”
The first session takes place on Thursday, April 9, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Keweenaw Co-op, focussing on the steps to build a personalized blueprint for healthy eating. Jaszczak will be joined by dietitians from Aspirus Keweenaw and UP Health System – Portage, who will share information on how to access local nutrition services and personalized support. Additional sessions are scheduled for May 14 and June 11, focussing on gut health and the importance of breakfast, respectively.
While past programming has focused on specialized topics, Navigating Nutrition is a return to providing comprehensive, accessible nutrition education for the broader community. Everyone deserves access to reliable information that helps them feel their best.
“With so many conflicting nutrition trends and fads circulating, it can feel overwhelming knowing where to start and what information is credible,” said Jaszczak. “We wanted to create the Navigating Nutrition series as a resource for the community to learn more about the relationship between food, health and nutrition.”
This program is made possible through partnership with the Co-Op, along with support from Aspirus and UP Health System-Portage for the April session. Together, these groups are bringing meaningful, community-centered nutrition education to life.
