As the Copper Country settles into late fall, our Meals on Wheels program — serving seniors throughout Houghton and Keweenaw counties — is serving up a menu full of hearty, cold-weather comfort food, including a Thanksgiving dinner the whole table will recognize.
Tuesday, Nov. 17 brings the month's centerpiece: a full turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and cranberry sauce — made with local ingredients. A fitting way to kick off Thanksgiving week.
Meals on Wheels will be closed both Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday, with no Meet & Eat sites open and no home-delivered meals on either day. Home-delivered meal participants will instead receive extra meals early, delivered on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Every Meals on Wheels participant receives a printed copy of the monthly menu delivered right along with their meals, with helpful information for seniors and their families on the back. Look for the pin icon next to meals throughout the month — it marks dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, connecting our seniors to the Upper Peninsula’s farms, ranches and producers even as the growing season winds down.
