August 2025 Menu Highlight

Copper Shores Meals on Wheels is proud to serve our community’s seniors with locally sourced ingredients. By purchasing from local farms and producers, funded through the $1.28 million LFPA grant Meals on Wheels received in 2023, we’re supporting the region’s agricultural economy, while promoting long-term health for our senior population. Freshly harvested food retains more nutrients, meaning the sooner it gets from the farm to the plate, the better it is for our elders.
We’re working hard to incorporate local ingredients into nearly every meal we serve, this month using more than one in many dishes! Here’s a look at some of the meals coming up in August:
- August 6 – Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, vegetables and birthday cake, made with bison from Circle K Ranch and beef from Buried Stone Farms.
- August 13 – Sloppy Joes, baked beans, glazed carrots and coleslaw, prepared with protein from Frozen Farms Co. and an in-house sauce made by Meals on Wheels from local tomatoes.
- August 18 – Sausage, egg and cheese croissant, potatoes O'Brien and applesauce, using potatoes from Johnson’s Potato Farm and peppers from Boersma Family Roots.
- August 27 – Cheeseburgers, potato wedges, vegetables and pumpkin fluff, utilizing beef from Buried Stone Farms and potatoes from Johnson’s Potato Farm.
Meals on Wheels is committed to serving fresh, local ingredients that are as nutritious as they are delicious. And these thoughtfully prepared meals do more than nourish – they connect our seniors with the local food system and celebrate the bounty of our area’s hardworking farmers.
