Fire UP about Farm to School on May 9
April 29, 2025 | By Emilie Jacques
Copper Shores Community Health Foundation invites educators, paraprofessionals, food service workers and other K-12 school staff to attend Fire UP about Farm to School on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Bonfire in Houghton.
Copper Shores Farm to School Coordinator Karyn Juntunen and Community Health Educator / Farm to School Program Director Meghan Jaszczak will highlight lessons learned from the Farm to School pilot program so far, as well as outline future plans for the initiative.
Thanks to a generous grant from Michigan Health Endowment Fund, Juntunen has been analyzing and testing Farm to School curriculum all year. She’s been identifying barriers to implementation and coming up with alternative solutions. Her findings offer great insight to the best practices for integrating Farm to School into Copper Country classrooms.
Attendees will hear from partner organizations and engage in sessions about funding sources, STEM education’s connection to hydroponics, food safety and garden hygiene. The day will also include a collaborative brainstorming session with guidance from Juntunen to help schools plan their own Farm to School activities.
Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided. If you're interested in learning more about this event and Copper Shores Farm to School efforts, contact Meghan Jaszczak by emailing mjaszczak@coppershores.org or calling 1 (906) 523-5920 ext. 2007. There is limited space to attend this event. Reserve a spot by contacting Jaszczak by end-of-day on Friday, May 2, 2025.
