Emily Stanton

2025-08-18-Website-EmilyStantonCongratulations to Emily Stanton, Do Good Volunteer of August 2025!

"Emily Stanton is a passionate grassroots organizer whose volunteer work through Keweenaw Queers has helped create space and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community in Michigan’s rural Upper Peninsula. Emily has been instrumental in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where LGBTQ+ individuals can connect, find community and access vital resources.

Most recently, despite facing pushback from some local community members about Keweenaw Pridefest, Emily and Keweenaw Queers courageously pushed forward. They remain focused on joy, celebration and solidarity, choosing to look past the judgment and build a festival that affirms and uplifts the LGBTQ+ community.

Emily also goes above and beyond to ensure the sustainability of the group’s work. She has attended several community events focused on grant writing and fundraising to learn how to support Keweenaw Queers through funding opportunities. Her initiative to seek out resources and build financial support demonstrates her long-term vision and unwavering commitment to the community she serves.

Emily’s work has had a transformative impact on the Keweenaw community. By fostering visibility and inclusion for LGBTQ+ residents, she has helped reduce isolation and build a stronger, more connected community. Her efforts have led to the creation of safe spaces, resource sharing and a growing network of queer and allied individuals who are invested in one another’s well-being. Emily’s volunteerism doesn’t just support a cause - it creates lasting cultural change in a place where it’s truly needed."

Thank you for the work you do!
