Victim Advocate

If so, Copper Shores Community Health Foundation invites you to apply for the position of Victim Advocate in Houghton, Michigan.

As a Victim Advocate, you will play a crucial role in reducing the severity of trauma and victimization for survivors and their families. Your support and advocacy will empower survivors to navigate the legal, medical, and emotional challenges they face, ensuring they receive the care and resources they need.

WHAT WE OFFER.

  • $17.50 – $22.00 per hour stating pay based on experience.

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday position with flexible work schedule. Flexibility required for on-call situations as needed.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.

  • Respond promptly to crisis situations, providing immediate support and empathetic listening to survivors of sexual assault.
  • Offer 24/7 on-call support on a rotating schedule for crime victims.
  • Provide crisis intervention, information, and support to primary and secondary victims.
  • Accompany clients to medical exams, police interviews, court proceedings, and other appointments.
  • Assist clients in understanding their rights and available resources.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case records.
  • Provide crisis intervention, information, and referrals to crisis line clients and walk-ins.
  • Participate in community services responding to sexual assault.
  • Assist in sexual assault support groups as needed.
  • Collaborate with other agencies to coordinate comprehensive services for clients.
  • Conduct community outreach and educational programs on sexual assault and prevention.
  • Complete required reports, including data and statistics.
  • Maintain quality assurance standards and assist with audits.
  • Participate in violence prevention coalitions.
  • Assist in coordinating Copper Shores events, activities, and volunteer coordination.
  • Attend relevant trainings, meetings, and activities for professional development.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Child and Family Studies, Community Health, Public Health, or a directly related field of study.
  • Experience in or knowledge of crisis intervention, training, and program development recommended.
  • Previous experience in victim advocacy, preferably with a focus on sexual assault.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and prioritize the safety and well-being of survivors.
