Callisto Cortez named HKCTC Coordinator

April 22, 2022 | By Sophia Goulette

Welcome to our new Houghton/Keweenaw Communities That Care Coordinator, Callisto Cortez! Our previous Coordinator, Lisa Simpson, took a new position as Prevention Coordinator at Dial Help.

Callisto grew up in the Houghton-Keweenaw community after moving from Milwaukee. She is an alumni of Dollar Bay-Tamarack City High School. Callisto is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Theatre with a minor in Technical Theater.

While theatre has played a major role in her life, another important aspect has been advocating for the mental health and well-being of others, especially youth.

Callisto is excited for her role as CTC Coordinator. Her goals are to be an advocate for local youth, help them better access opportunities to learn necessary life skills, and enhance overall wellness for the young people of our community. They are our future, and she believes that if we can provide them with a positive self-image, healthy forms of communication, and guidance, they’ll be better suited for a successful future into adulthood.
