Jacques helping to tell the story of Copper Shores

July 6, 2023 | By Michael H. Babcock

When Calumet native Emilie Jacques graduated from Michigan Technological University in December 2022, she knew she wanted to work somewhere where she could make a difference. She knew she wanted to be part of the solution when it comes to societal issues like mental health. She also knew she wanted to try to make it a go as a young professional in Michigan’s Copper Country.

She could use her skills and experiences from her minor in media production along with the expertise she gained from her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology to promote the incredible things happening at Copper Shores.

“It felt too good to be true,” Jacques said. “We do such important work at Copper Shores, and I get to be part of nearly all of it. It’s rewarding to know that I am helping create a more healthful tomorrow in my home community.”

Her role as a marketing associate includes writing stories and press releases, assisting with video, podcast and advertising production, capturing moments behind the camera as a photographer, updating websites and newsletters, and managing social media accounts.

She began at the foundation in early 2023 and played a vital role in the creation, announcement and ongoing implementation of the new name and branding. She’s been on the road to Ontonagon, Baraga, Mohawk and nearly everywhere in between to learn and see what kind of projects Copper Shores is supporting and programs it runs.

“Her personality and positive attitude are contagious around the office,” Director of Marketing and Communications Michael H. Babcock said. “She came into our office with the right mix of experience and passion and has been a valuable contributor to our marketing and communications efforts since walking in the door.”

To follow Jacque’s work, simply search for Copper Shores on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram. You’ll find accounts focused on the Copper Shores Bridges, Community Support and Outreach, Meals on Wheels and more that Jacques keeps updated regularly.

“It’s an honor to tell the story of the inspiring work my co-workers are doing each day,” Jacques said. “I hope our community will follow along as we continue to put our mission into action.”
