Gut Feeling: Foods to Support Your Microbiome
Community members are invited to the second Navigating Nutrition session to learn about gut health, try free samples that fuel the gut microbiome and take home practical, easy-to-implement tips and tricks. This presentation is led by registered dietitian and Copper Shores Community Health Educator, Meghan Jaszczak, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 14 at the Keweenaw Co+Op.
“The science around our gut microbiome is fascinating,” said Jaszczak. “Gut health has received a lot of attention in health spaces and current research suggests our gut microbiome is connected to so much more than just digestion.”
Gut health has been linked to several short- and long-term health benefits, including feelings of satiation and hormone production. Research currently suggests that about 90 percent of serotonin production, the “feel-good” molecule, takes place in the gut. Studies have also linked certain types of gut bacteria with improving one's ability to signal to the brain that they're full.
“The list goes on and on,” said Jaszczak. “I’m excited to help community members feel good about gut health.”
Navigating Nutrition is open to all and free to attend. Get a taste of samples, including Living Proof Kombucha, kefir, sauerkraut and kimchi, and walk away feeling more confident about fueling your gut microbiome.
