This past weekend the Ontonagon County Cancer Association held its annual Simple Jerry's BBQ Cook-off. The event, combined with other OCCA fund development events, helps OCCA raise over $50,000 annually - all of which stays in the county to help cancer patients in need.
"The Portage Health Foundation was very happy to contribute to this effort." said, Kevin Store, Ex. Director of the foundation. "The community's collective work to raise money to support friends and neighbors in need is commendable - we applaud their effort and all that they are doing."
Approximately 500 people attended the event that included BBQ chicken, ribs, and brisket. Seven BBQ teams tested their culinary skills and provided some delicious food for a great cause.
