Play, learn and connect at the Calumet Colosseum on May 17

Community members are invited to join Copper Shores Community Health Foundation and Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds at the Family Fun Fair and Resource Fair on Saturday, May 17 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Calumet Colosseum. Both events are open to the public and free to attend.
The Family Fun Fair, put on by Copper Shores Outreach & Education, will feature games and activities, free food and door prizes for all ages. People are encouraged to take part in this wonderful opportunity to come together and connect with their kids and loved ones, both as families and as a part of the broader community.
“A lot of prosocial behaviors come from being with our parents,” said Callisto Cortez, Copper Shores Outreach & Education youth development specialist. “Building a sense of community helps healthy child development, and in adulthood can serve as a motivating factor for maintaining mental health. Bring your family to have a good time and flourish in the happiness.”
At the same time as the Family Fun Fair, Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds is hosting the Resource Fair in the ballroom of the Colosseum. The Resource Fair highlights more than 25 local agencies and organizations that provide mental health support, substance misuse help, alternative therapies and more. In addition to community members actively seeking support, local government officials, law enforcement, employers, health care and other Copper Country professionals are encouraged to attend.
“We want to challenge the common belief that the Copper Country does not have any resources,” said Michelle Morgan of Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds. “Sometimes people don’t even try to reach out, fearing that there are not enough resources to help them. Come see what we have to offer. Learn about services and support that you can refer people to and join us in celebrating the many very talented and devoted community members who want to help others.”
