Portage Health Foundation seeking applicants for $100,000 in grants focused on Community Recreational Facilities and Resources

Portage Health Foundation has released a request for proposals (RFP) focusing on Community Recreational Facilities and Resources. Up to $100,000 is available. Grant applications are due March 16.

Through two years this RFP has led to 12 grants totaling more than $200,000 throughout Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties. Previously funded projects include improvements to Gratiot River Park in Keweenaw County, Point Abbaye Park in Baraga County, Houghton County Arena, Houghton Skate Park, Terrace Park in Hancock and Meadowbrook Arena in L’Anse, the installation of a rope tow in Greenland Township, trail upgrades at Swedetown Trails, Chassell Trails and Copper Harbor Trails, and handicap-focused improvements at the Drill House in Calumet Township and public beach in Ontonagon Village.

The foundation expects to award up to $100,000. There is no minimum grant amount, and the maximum amount awarded under this RFP will be $20,000. A letter of inquiry is due February 3, grants applications are due March 16 and grant awards are expected to be announced April 17.

This is the final year of a three-year commitment to the Community Recreational Facilities and Resources RFP, which addresses the foundation’s long-term sustainability goal of healthy living.
