Renovations to the Drill Shop in Calumet

The Copper Country Curling Club has been awarded a grant to renovate the Drill Shop building into a year-round activity center. The Club, which has occupied the building since 2005, asked the PHFoundation for a $4,000 grant that will be matched by a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The funds will go toward making the Drill Shop handicap accessible, installing a barrier free bathroom, building a large community room, and developing activity bays and lighting upgrades. The PHFoundation is thrilled to participate in a project that once completed, will have the capability of serving more users and providing the space to develop additional curling programs such as a junior curling group. Getting area residents active through physical exercise is an important step toward healthy living. With the Drill Shop’s renovations, comes greater opportunity for people to try out a new activity and become engaged, healthy participants in their community!
