Sunday is a big one and we're hoping you are planning to join us! We are throwing our fifth annual Community-Wide Picnic, and this year we've moved the party to Laurium. This year's event follows a similar theme to previous years — free lunch, free fun, and absolutely nothing to sign up for in advance. Here's why you should clear your Sunday afternoon.
1. It's a record year for nonprofit vendors — more than double last year
We're bringing in more than 45 nonprofits and community organizations this year, that's double the vendor turnout from last year's picnic. We actually had to double our tent order to fit everyone. 😮 Whatever you're curious about — mental health resources, outdoor recreation, youth programs, senior services, animal welfare, the arts — there's a good chance one of the folks at this year's expo can point you in the right direction.
2. Lunch is on us
Free lunch and refreshments for the whole family, no strings attached. Show up hungry.
3. The vendor lineup covers just about everything
With that many organizations under one roof (well, at one park), the variety is a real draw. Local fire and police departments, EMS, humane society, roller derby, running clubs, historical parks, recovery and mental health resources, youth mentoring programs, and plenty more will all be on hand to chat and hand out information. It's a rare chance to meet a huge cross-section of the Copper Country's community organizations in one afternoon.
4. There's something for the kids (and the kids at heart)
Expect a full slate of family-friendly activities and games, all included, all free. Bring the whole crew.
5. You could walk away with a prize
Taking part in the picnic earns you raffle tickets, so there's a real chance to go home with something extra for the trouble of showing up and having a good time.
6. It's a genuine thank-you, and it's easy to get to
This event exists because of years of community support, and it's Copper Shores' way of saying thanks while shining a light on everything happening across the Copper Country.
This year's picnic lands at the George Gipp Recreation Area and Ice Arena in Laurium (200 Isle Royale Street), Sunday, July 26, from 12 to 3 p.m.
