Congratulations to the December Superior Educator of the 2025-2026 school year - Erica Theisen of Houghton-Portage Township Schools.
"Erica Theisen builds strong, meaningful connections with her students. Over the past two years, she has organized Google Meet sessions with "Mississippi Trial" author Chris Crowe, enriching students’ understanding of the novel. This year, she also invited Houghton High School alumna Maria Velat to speak about overcoming adversity, tying in powerfully with the themes of "The Running Dream." As a first-year advisor to the Yearbook Club, Erica led the creation of a well-loved, beautifully crafted yearbook. Even when faced with shifting deadlines, she remained calm and composed. Teaching seventh grade English is truly her dream job, and her students can feel it."
