Much of Janel’s impact happens behind the scenes. She is constantly coordinating supports, checking in with staff and making sure students at Houghton have what they need to be successful. She approaches her work with exceptional creativity and a willingness to think outside the box. She consistently designs and implements supports that truly meet students where they are. When a student is having a tough day, Janel is often the first to step in to help, offering compassionate guidance and a steady presence that helps restore a sense of safety and belonging for that kiddo. No matter the situation, Janel meets students with patience, dedication and a genuine belief in their potential.
Her impact extends far beyond students. Janel is a trusted colleague who readily offers a listening ear and meaningful support to staff members facing challenges. She intentionally fosters a warm, inclusive and collaborative environment in which teachers feel safe seeking help, sharing concerns and working together to solve problems. Her presence strengthens the entire school community, and it is clear how much she cares about the people she works with.
