August 2026 Menu Highlight at Copper Shores Meals on Wheels
July 29, 2026 | By Adam Campbell-Olszewski
Late summer in the Copper Country means gardens are overflowing, and our Meals on Wheels program — serving seniors in Houghton and Keweenaw counties — is serving up a menu to match. Most meals on August's calendar feature locally sourced ingredients, keeping our seniors connected to the harvest happening right in their own backyard.
Breakfast-for-lunch also makes two appearances this month, a favorite among both our home-delivered meal and Meet & Eat participants:
- Monday, Aug. 10 – Pancakes, turkey sausage and hash browns, made with local ingredients.
- Monday, Aug. 31 – Sausage, egg and cheese croissant with potatoes.
A couple other highlights from the month:
- Monday, Aug. 3 – Macaroni and cheese with ham, green beans, carrots and a dinner roll, made with local ingredients.
- Wednesday, Aug. 5 – Baked fish with rice and vegetables, made with local ingredients.
A note on August 13
Meals on Wheels will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 13, with no Meet & Eat sites open and no home-delivered meals that day. Home-delivered meal participants will instead receive that week's Thursday meal a day early, on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
Did you know?
Every Meals on Wheels participant receives a printed copy of the monthly menu delivered right along with their meals. Flip it over, and you'll find helpful information for seniors and their families on the back.
This month's back page features a Midwest Seasonal Produce Guide. It breaks down why shopping seasonally matters — better taste, lower cost and more nutrients — and lists what Midwest produce is in season each time of year, from spring asparagus and rhubarb to summer berries, grapes and melons to fall squash and pumpkins. It's also a reminder that Michigan's Market Bucks program matches SNAP-EBT spending dollar-for-dollar, up to $10, at participating farmers markets across the state.
