Free suicide intervention training in Hancock, October 28 and 29, 2026

Community members are invited to a two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training on October 28 and 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at UP Health System - Portage in Hancock. This interactive training teaches participants how to recognize when someone may be experiencing thoughts of suicide and how to work with them to develop a plan that supports their immediate safety.
“Suicide prevention focuses on reducing risk factors and strengthening protective supports before a crisis occurs,“ said Kristine Martens, Copper Shores Outreach & Eduction program director. “While suicide intervention is about recognizing when someone may be in immediate danger and knowing how to respond in that moment.”
ASIST provides tangible, life-saving tools for anyone who wants to be better prepared to help others, especially emergency first responders, health care professionals and individuals who regularly work with vulnerable populations.
This training empowers individuals to respond compassionately and effectively during moments of crisis, helping build stronger networks of support throughout the community. Take the next step toward building a safer, more supportive community by registering for ASIST.
