GivingTuesday 2024 surpasses $1 million going to nonprofits
January 24, 2025 | By Emilie Jacques
New giving record for #GiveCopperCountry
For the first time in eight years, the Copper Country’s GivingTuesday campaign, #GiveCopperCountry, will result in more than $1 million going to local nonprofits. This incredible feat wouldn’t be possible without the boundless generosity of hundreds of community members and people across the country.
Starting this week, checks will go to the nonprofit partners, totaling $1,072,937.49, which includes $872,937.49 in community donations and $200,000 in amplification funds from Copper Shores Community Health Foundation.
“This year was simply awesome,” said Kevin Store, president/CEO of Copper Shores. “I want to thank all the donors, the organizations and all the staff here that made this year of giving possible - well done!”
Since 2017, more than $4.7 million has gone back to nonprofit organizations operating out of Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties. As #GiveCopperCountry grows, Copper Shores will continue striving to foster a campaign and community full of generosity that lasts for years to come.
“We are grateful for the trust in Copper Shores to facilitate this charitable giving and the opportunity for us to advocate for organizations that do so much to make this a better community for everyone,” said Store.
About GivingTuesday
GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. It takes place on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving each year. #GiveCopperCountry is a Copper Shores GivingTuesday campaign designed to raise awareness, advocate for the individual causes and help build local nonprofits’ capacity to fundraise.
Copper Country nonprofits were invited to apply to be a partner in August. Partners were announced in October with a record 49 causes to donate to. Donations opened to the public in November, and remained so until the end of GivingTuesday, on December 3. Copper Shores celebrated GivingTuesday by inviting community members to make their donations in-person at GivingTuesday Live, a media blitz and networking event for the nonprofits at the Copper Country Mall.
Keep up with Copper Shores Community Health Foundation on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads or X (formerly known as Twitter) to see check presentations over the coming week! Learn more about Copper Shores #GiveCopperCountry campaign at coppershores.org/givingtuesday.
