July 8, 2025 | By Michael H. Babcock

Grant opportunity to enhance community recreation facilities in the Copper Country

Rec and facilities 1x1Copper Shores Community Health Foundation is seeking concept papers for projects that promote recreation, personal wellness and community engagement. Proposed projects can be for new or existing community recreation initiatives, with a particular interest in larger projects anticipated for completion in 2026 and beyond. Concept papers are due August 22.

Applicants must submit a concept paper no longer than two pages; competitive concept papers that align with Copper Shores' goals and mission will receive an invitation for a full proposal. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, local units of government, or public institutions of education domiciled in and serving the four-county area.

Funds from this grant are ideally intended to be used as matching monies to leverage more substantial investments in enhancing and improving the built environment, including buildings, trails, and capital equipment. A strong emphasis of this grant opportunity is on universal design, promoting inclusivity and accessibility in all aspects of community life. Universal design ensures environments are accessible, understood and usable by all people, regardless of age, size, ability or disability. It is considered a fundamental condition of good design, benefiting everyone.

Copper Shores has received numerous requests for support in these areas, recognizing the vital role recreational facilities play in promoting active, healthy lifestyles and contributing to the overall quality of life for citizens. These facilities are crucial for physical activity, but communities often struggle with their maintenance or development.
