What does the new federal tax law mean for donors?
August 26, 2026 | By Emilie Jacques
Beginning with the 2026 tax year, giving back comes with an added benefit. Taxpayers who take the standard deduction may be eligible to claim a tax deduction for charitable giving, making it easier than ever to support the causes they care about.
This new federal tax rule may allow those who take the standard deduction to claim a tax deduction for charitable giving.* This is known as an “above-the-line deduction,” meaning this deduction applies in addition to the standard deduction, designed to give everyday donors meaningful incentive to give back.
If you don’t itemize your taxes, you may be able to deduct up to:
- $1,000 in donations for individuals
- $2,000 in donations for married couples filing jointly
*Copper Shores Community Health Foundation does not provide tax or legal advice. Donors should consult their CPA, tax advisor or legal professional regarding the deductibility of contributions and their individual tax circumstances.
