2026-08-25-Meals-on-Wheels-Menu-September-Advertising-2026-OL-1080x1080As the Copper Country eases into fall, Meals on Wheels, serving seniors throughout Houghton and Keweenaw counties, has a menu full of local flavor and a few fun surprises this September.

Local partners show up all over the calendar this month. Buried Stone Farms supplies chicken, pork and beef for meals throughout the month, and Ghost House Farm and Ransom Farms round things out with fresh produce and berries.

Breakfast-for-lunch is especially popular this month, showing up three times:

  • Wednesday, September 2 – Pannukakku, a traditional Finnish oven pancake, with turkey sausage and mixed berries. A fitting nod to the Copper Country's Finnish heritage and something we think you’d have a hard time finding at any other Meals on Wheels program across the country!
  • Monday, September 14 – Cheese omelet with potatoes, turkey sausage (from Buried Stone Farms!) and diced pears.
  • Wednesday, September 30 – Ham, egg and cheese croissant with breakfast potatoes and applesauce.

A couple other highlights:

  • Tuesday, September 1 – Pepperoni and onion pizza with cole slaw, made with onions and cabbage from Ghost House Farm.
  • Thursday, September 3 – Lamb tips and noodles, made with lamb from Kropf Family Farm.

A note on September 7

Meals on Wheels will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day, with no Meet & Eat sites open and no home-delivered meals that day. Home-delivered meal participants will instead receive that day's meal on Friday, September 4.

Did you know?

Every Meals on Wheels participant receives a printed copy of the monthly menu delivered right along with their meals. Flip it over, and you'll find helpful information for seniors and their families on the back.

This month's back page features fall-prevention tips from the National Council on Aging. Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in an emergency department for a fall-related injury, but many falls are preventable. The guide walks through six simple steps, like building strength and balance, reviewing medications with a doctor or pharmacist, keeping vision and hearing checkups current and removing tripping hazards at home.
